Davao City
The City of Davao, hailed by Asiaweek as the Philippine's Most
Livable City in 1999 is not only the third most known urban center
in the country (next to Cebu and Manila) but is also the center of
growing trade, commerce and industry in the southern part of the
Mindanao. A part of the BIMP-EAGA
(Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area),
Davao City is the largest city among all the members of the
economic circle.
The strong presence of basic infrastructure within the city such
as airport, seaport, roads, bridges, telecommunications,
condominiums, shopping malls and first class hotels supported its
economic expansion for the last 10 years. Due to the city's
unprecedented growth, the local government pushed for
infrastructure development and pursued a number of modernization
projects that now meets the demands of the new millennium.
Through the cooperation of the public and private sector the
city was able to nab numerous prestigious awards; bagging the best
city police office in the country, a testimony of the city's effort
in ensuring peace and order; consistently on the top of the list of
the annual search for the cleanest and greenest city in the
Philippines; and the prestigious Destination of the Year honor
given by the Kalakbay Awards (National Tourism Awards). Davao is
also proud to have the second best source of potable water in the
world according to the World Health Organization.
Today, the city is bustling with commercial and industrial
activities and a teeming urban night life with a large range of
entertainment venues. Being the hub of commerce, health, education
and tourism, the urban metropolis draws visitors and tourists from
all parts of the world.
