Pasig City
One of the cities and municipalities that make up Metro
Manila is Pasig. Before, it used to
be the capital of the province of Rizal. Pasig city is located
along the Quezon City,Mandaluyong, Marikina, Pateros, Taguig and Cainta
borders. Because of the Republic Act No. 137 of the Philippine
Commission in 1901, Pasig was incorporated with the province of
Rizal and designated as the capital. Metropolitan Manila
Development Authority has carved out of Rizal in 1957 and became
part of Metro Manila through Presidential Decree 824 during the
reign of former President Marcos. In 1994, it was turned into a
highly urbanized and developed city through the plebiscite in
1995.
Primarily a residential-industrial town, City of Pasig is
increasingly becoming a technology park and commercial area at
present. Ortigas center is one of the top
business districts in the metropolis. There are many high-rise
office buildings in the area, along with residential condominiums,
schools and universities. The University of Asia and the Pacific
which is one of the most expensive universities in the Philippines
and the head office of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines are
found in the city of Pasig. At the Northwest of Ortigas Center is
Meralco Compound and houses the head offices of Meralco, which is
the largest electrical distribution company of the country.
Philippine Stock Exchange's headquarters are located in the city.
It is the trading floors of the country. Nowadays, businesses are
flourishing in the Pasig City. Call centers and BPO companies
already exist here with more arriving in this emerging
cyber park. Numerous call center, BPO, IT and other outsourcing
companies are abruptly investing in Ortigas Business Center cyber
parkarea, making one of the barangay of San Antonio to have the
largest incomes for a single local government unit compared with
the other small towns in the municipality of Pasig.
