Legazpi: The Gateway City of Bicol

Hailed as the "City of Fun and Adventure", Legazpi city began as a port city mostly inhabited by fishermen and farmers. Known for its natural wonders such as the Mayon Volcano and historical monuments such as the Liberty Bell, Legazpi city is a city of continuous progress and development. Legazpi City is the capital of the province of Albay and is located in its eastern portion. It is also the administrative center of its region (Bicol). Situated south of Manila, it is accessible by air, land, and water. The Legazpi Airport, the busiest airport in the island of Luzon, was  built in the 1960s and is served by Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, Air Philippines, and Zest Air. The airport is able to handle both local and international flights.

In terms of industry, the city's primary products include rice and root crops followed by its secondary product coconut and other coconut by products. While its primary products are agricultural in nature, in 2006, the city was named one of the most competitive cities in the Philippines by the Asian Institute of Management (AIM). It was also recognized to be one of the most business-friendly cities in the whole of South Luzon by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI).

In 2012, Legazpi City was also cited as one of the best cities for Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) activity outside of the country's capital, Manila. They were also awarded for having the most effective ICT Council and LGU for the same year. Along with cities such as Lipa, Batangas,Cagayan De Oro, Baguio, Dumaguete, and Iloilo. Legazpi City was named one of the 10 next wave cities for the country's BPO industry by the Business Process Association of the Philippines(BPAP). Given this citation, Legazpi is recognized as one of the emerging locations for BPO in the Philippines as companies continue to look for developing cities outside of Manila in order to tap into the rich human resource present outside the capital.

Within Legazpi, there are currently two IT parks namely the Embarcadero de Legazpi IT Park and the Legazpi Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Park. In total, the two IT parks can house approximately 8,000 which can be filled up by 98% of the population who are all literate college degree holders.
