Metro Naga: The Queen City of Bicol
Metro Naga is composed of several cities and
municipalities centering around the City of Naga. These cities and
municipalities include the 14 surrounding municipalities of
Camarines Sur. Metro Naga is accessible through land and air
transit. By land, the metro is accessible from Manila
through the Andaya Highway in a matter of 6 hours and through the
National Railway. By air, Metro Naga is accessible through the
Naga Airport with several flights from Cebu Pacific and Philippine
Airlines (through PAL Express) throughout the day.
Metro Naga is managed through the
Metro Naga Development Council
(MNDC). The MNDC is a consortium of the 16 local government
units (LGUs) in the Province of Camarines Sur. Through local
economic development, the MNDC seeks to promote accelerated,
equitable, and sustainable growth and development through the
cooperation of its member units. In early 2013, Metro Naga was also
named as a top destination for IT-BPO firms by the Department of
Science and Technology (DOST) and the Information
Technology and Business Process Association of the
Philippines (IBPAP). As one of the Top Ten Next
Wave Cities for 2012-2013, Metro Naga joins cities such as
Batangas City, Cagayan de Oro, Dagupan , Tagbilaran , Davao and Iloilo in being
prime destinations for IT-BPM firms. Included in the companies
already moving to expand to the area is IBM.
Tourism in the area has also remained strong,
with Metro Naga hosting 75% of the tourists coming to the region.
